Brompton Design District Highlights for 2022


Brompton Cross is full of excitement with this years London Design Festival in full swing. Brompton Design District is hosting over 30 events ranging from design graduate showcases to installations and talks by celebrated European furniture designers and leading design brands.
Running until Sunday 25th September, London’s first ever design district is hosting a range of exhibitions, talks and events showcasing the work of emerging designers as well as celebrating the work of leading designers and brands including Cassina, Molteni&C, Meridiani and others from the UK and Europe. For London Design Festival 2022, the theme for Brompton Design District is ‘Make Yourself At Home’. Recent events have heightened our awareness of home, its importance and fragility in turbulent times. Curated by Jane Withers Studio, Brompton invites designers to reflect is a on the places we call home and the role of design in transforming these spaces.

Stretching from the V&A to Brompton Road, Brompton is a destination for design; a cluster of global design brands sit within an ecosystem of fashion shops, local cafes, established restaurants and one of the world’s most important cultural quarters. This year the District’s hub will be at Cromwell Place. The arts venue will host four exhibitions from the curated programme as well as a number of other London Design Festival events including INTO SIGHT, a life-sized media platform installation, where Sony Design plays on sensorial effects that transform simple surfaces into an infinite vista through shifting light, colour and sound.

September 22nd Late Night at Brompton Design District

Alongside the curated programme, Brompton Design District will see design partners based in the District host a series of designer talks and exhibitions. Highlights include:

A multimedia installation by celebrated designer Vincent Van Duysen hosted by Molteni&C in its flagship store on Brompton Road. Also in celebration of the Brompton Design District theme ‘Make Yourself At Home’, Molteni&C has organised a panel discussion on Thursday 22 September. The festival will also be an opportunity to present the new collections, on display for the first time in London.

To coincide with London Design Festival 2022,  Slamp’s first flagship store in the United Kingdom, Slamp London Knightsbridge will open its doors. The store will showcase the brand’s most iconic collections, from those designed by Zaha Hadid, to those which best suit contract projects and offer striking architectural solutions.

Other specticles include the collaboration between Paul Smitth & DePadova, the installation in The Conran Shop ‘Welcome to the Meta Verse’ with design agency ‘It’s Nice That’ and the Best of British Exhibition at Andipa Gallery on Walton Street.

Many stores will be hosting special events opening late on Thursday 22nd and on Friday night the V&A stay open for ‘Transformation Station’ Highlighting the different scales of change, from molecular to planetary, in which we can transform and be transformed to create a better world. Design is a mode of intervening, of working with the forces and flows that shape our world and diverting their course just enough to produce a new effect.
