The Lavery: A New Chapter for Dining and Design

Positioned between Knightsbridge, Chelsea and South Kensington, Brompton Cross is one of London’s most elegant districts. At its heart are Michelin House, refined boutiques, art galleries, spas and design stores. Recent improvements to the streetscape — from pedestrian-friendly avenues to new trees and lighting — have strengthened its village atmosphere, making it an ever more appealing destination for dining, discovery and time well spent.

It is in this context that The Lavery has arrived at 4 Cromwell Place. Once the home and studio of the Anglo-Irish painter Sir John Lavery, the Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses have been meticulously restored and reimagined as a new cultural hub for dining and events. The Lavery brings together a restaurant, café, and private dining room, all under the direction of a team of seasoned hospitality professionals, and already attracting attention from both locals and international brands.

The Lavery: Restaurant, Café and Private Dining

At the heart of the experience is the restaurant, where chef Yohei Furuhashi (formerly of The River Café and Toklas) leads a daily-changing Mediterranean menu rooted in seasonality. Expect dishes such as pappardelle with slow-cooked rabbit, Scottish scallops with alubia beans, or the house “Lavery mess”. A carefully curated wine list and cocktails with a retro flair — from grapefruit daiquiris to rhubarb sours — complete the offer.

On the ground floor, the newly opened Café at The Lavery provides a light-filled space for mornings and afternoons. Breakfast might be smoked salmon brioche buns or house granola, while lunches bring Mediterranean-style plates such as seasonal salads, focaccia sandwiches, or zucchini and ricotta frittata. Interiors balance historic features with contemporary design, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere for every occasion.

For more intimate gatherings, the Private Dining Room offers one of London’s most distinctive new spaces. Seating 14 around a central table, it combines high ceilings, a marble fireplace, and contemporary art with a menu drawn from the restaurant’s kitchens. The room will also host creative design “takeovers” throughout the year, beginning with PINCH as part of the London Design Festival, making it a destination for both food and culture.

Together, these three spaces strengthen Brompton Cross’s reputation as a destination that blends luxury, creativity, and community. Whether for a morning coffee, an elegant dinner, or a private celebration, The Lavery adds a new dimension to the district’s evolving character.
