My Brompton Cross by Laurence Coste

Laurence Coste is an eponymous jewellery brand handmade and designed on Walton Street, we caught up with Founder Laurence to hear about her Brompton Cross life.

What is your history with Brompton Cross?
So, I opened my first shop in 2006 and I was really pleased because I received beautiful responses from the customers and also felt very welcomed by the community. I remember ever since the beginning; the area was always full of life and enthusiasm. People who have come into our stores come from different walks of life and this is very exciting for me. I feel the liveliness of the street makes it a unique place in London to visit. There is never a dull moment. I feel my shop has overtime, become more than just a physical store. It has also become a meeting point where we really have created amazing relationships with customers and created a community that I really cherish.

Why do you think Brompton Cross is special?
Yes, as I mentioned, first it is very special to me because I opened my very first store there. And also, because you really have people who come from all over the world visiting the area. It is funny because sometimes I feel like I have been traveling so much (without actually traveling). It makes my relationship with customers very special because the atmosphere of the street. You feel confident, you feel at home, and you feel part of this lovely village.

Where do you hangout or refuel at Brompton Cross?
Back in the day I used to hang out a lot at Itsu. Now I love hanging out at Jak’s, for lunch and coffee. The shop is only next door to mine, and I love rewinding there – sometimes I have meetings there too and the staff are really lovely. Nice and calming atmosphere.

Where do you like to shop?
I really love all the independent stores. Place I shop from the most is Joseph – I think it sets great trends and I really love the brand and the people who work there.

Any special tips for a newcomer?
I think when you visit Brompton Cross, you should let yourself wander and be surprised – there is a variety of places to visit – specifically the independent stores. It is a good way to walk around and get some ideas about the new trends and get inspired. You will never waste your time because there is always something for someone in Brompton Cross.

Have you a fond memory of the area you can share with us?
My fond memory is this village aspect of Brompton Cross. It has been very well taken care of. Very individualistic, unique, lively, and fun. Everybody has got their own way of presenting their brands/shops. The shops you are going to visit are one offs most of the time which provide unique experiences to customers.
